Rapio Mill

The old mill has many tales to tell.

Built by Karl Fredrik Hammaren and currently owned by the Härkönen family, the Rapio Mill, which has been in operation already since 1812, is one of the oldest industrial establishments to have been in operation non-stop. The mill was built during a time when only grain brought in by customers was milled and part of the grain was kept as a grinding fee. The mill is located next to the rushing Rapionkoski rapids and is still partly powered by these rapids. Its own hydro-electric power plant mills the surging rapids into green energy.

Still in operation amidst the lush nature, the mill is used to process local grain into various mill products. Rapio keeps its production lines small so as to guarantee that the products are always fresh and retain their natural flavour and the authentic taste of grain. The selection of goods at the Rapio Mill includes over twenty different additive-free grain products that can be purchased from the charming Mill Shop.
