The nostalgic, 100-years-old S/S Heinävesi operates on the route Savonlinna – Punkaharju taking its passengers to the Retretti Art Centre, Kesämaa and the Finnish Forest museum Lusto. With a capacity to take aboard 126 passengers, this vessel also provides accommodation overnight and the opportunity to enjoy good Finnish food.
Christened S/S Heinävesi, this ship was built in 1906. She began immediately to operate along the Savonlinna – Kuopio – Savonlinna route. In the early decades of the 20th century, this ship was just about the only means of transport in the summer for people living in the vicinity of navigable water ways. It provided the means of travel to these towns and of getting agricultural products to the market. Many a love story has also had its beginning on board the ship, and indeed many young couples travelled aboard Heinävesi to their local church to be wed there. S/S Heinävesi is available for charter use outside its regular schedule from mid-May up to October throughout Lake Saimaa. The ship’s crew and other staff are experts in arranging successful conference and business customer cruises. Evening cruises with dinner included at the time of the Savonlinna Opera Festival and various special day and wedding cruises are also highly popular.
